It has been seven months since the divorce was final. Seven months on the 13th of May. Is it time to move on?
I don’t know. I want someone to share my life with, but I hate the emotions that occasionally still creep up on me (like when the ex wants to start bringing his girlfriend to the kids events). I want to move past it and get on with my life.
So, I know many of you aren’t in this situation, but where should I begin? What would you do to help move on in your life? How do you meet new people? Through friends? Internet dating? Eharmony (*wink* to Rhonda)? Church? Singles groups?
I know the answer for me is definitely not in a bar. I don’t drink and if you are at a bar, you are asking for trouble. People who have their inhibitions lowered and who will do and say crazy things they might not otherwise do.
Does it depend on what you are looking for?
High on my list is a man who loves God. This is non-negotiable. My priorities in life aren’t always in order, but this is one that I am not going to waiver on. Obviously none of us love God perfectly, and I definitely fail time and again, but a man who is doing his best to be who God has called him to be.
The next priority is a man who loves kids. Since I have two kids, I want them to be loved by someone as much as I love them. They are great kids and deserve to have loving parents and step-parents.
I definitely need to go out on a date soon. It has been since 1998 since I went out on a date with someone new. Yikes. Almost 12 years. If I don’t go soon, I may never go.
So, I guess if you have any single male friends that meet the first two criteria, let me know. I may run screaming and try to get out of the date (not because I don’t like the person, but because I am terrified) but the sooner I eat the frog/rip the bandaid (Rachel) the better I will feel.
