Third day of 1st grade - Otherwise know as McKenzie's first day of 1st grade

This week has been a little traumatic to say the least. McKenzie came down with a virus on Sunday. It caused her to run a high fever that prevented her from going to school on the first two days. After visiting the doctor to find out that it was indeed a virus, he indicated that she should stay out of school until the fever was gone. Kenzie really wanted to stay out as long as possible, but today she woke with no fever and since she hadn't had one since the night before, it was off to school for her first day of first grade. (Anyone else singing that song from the VeggieTales movie Jonah?)

Anyway, here are some pictures of my girl on her first day. Imagine my surprise when she didn't want to wear pink. A shocker to be sure.

After meeting her teacher on Thursday night, her only question was if Ms. Vivan could call school off on August 28th so that Kenzie could go see "The Wizards of Waverly Place - The Movie." I told her that Ms. Vivian could not call school off for that and reminded her that the movie was going to be on Disney Channel that night so she wouldn't miss it because of school. Such a funny girl!

I almost cried dropping her off this morning. I did walk her to the classroom since it had been a week since we visited the school to meet her teacher. She was fine when I left her. I can't wait to hear all about it this afternoon. She is a big girl now and I am definitely not ready for it.

Have a great Wednesday!

Where did we go?

I still haven't gotten around to getting the graduation pictures from my dad. It has been a busy week.

We left out of Knoxville on Saturday around 8:00 am to go to Myrtle Beach. It was a very interesting trip. On Thursday before we left, Kaleb woke up from his nap with a fever. He went to the doctor the next morning. Dr. Ruth found blisters on his throat. Yikes! He tested Kaleb for Strep, but the quick test came up negative. Boy was he surprised. He graciously checked Kenzie's throat to see if she was ill as well. She looked fine......at the time.

Later that night, she started running a fever and complaining of a sore throat. Saturday morning before we left, I called the dr's office. After a little manipulation....I got them to call her in an antibiotic. Whew! Step one complete. We can leave town and get the meds upon our arrival in Myrtle Beach.

It was a long trip. Kenzie is now old enough to ask "How much longer?" We told her "20 more minutes," the entire way. Just like our parents did when we were kids.

On our stop for lunch, we stopped at the McDonalds from !@#!$!#. There was only one employee who was remotely nice. They didn't have any decaffinated drinks, no water at the lobby drink station, and I got attitude for asking for a water that I had paid for. Kenzie ordered a milkshake for her sore throat. That McD's would have been a good place for a restaurant. Their ice cream machine was broken. So she ordered a Strawberry-Banana Smoothie. We got a Strawberry Smoothie with lots of attitude. Apparently it doesn't actually come with a banana in it even though the sign on the menu advertised an entire banana in the smoothie. There went $2.71 down the drain. Kenzie wouldn't drink it since she couldn't taste the banana.

Eight long hours later, we reached our destination. We unloaded the car and went to dinner. We ate at a great new place called "The Fish House." I assume it was new because the hardwood floors were gleaming and you could still smell the paint drying. The food hush puppies we light and sweet. A perfect precursor to the meal to follow. I had a wonderful deviled crab and boiled shrimp. They even brought the kids a small dish of ice cream after the meal. The ice cream tasted like cool whip. It was a great way to redeem the horrible lunch experience.

We went back to the Captain's Quarters and went swimming in the indoor pool since it was a little chilly and windy. We crashed after a long day of travel.

You can tell in this picture how badly Kenzie feels by looking at those eyes of hers. She has such beautiful eyes.

More photos of our vacation to come soon. We had a great time inspite of the crazy start. Hope you had a fun week too!

Gymnastics fun!

I had the opportunity to video a few minutes of McKenzie's gymnastics class. I thought you might enjoy the watching a few minutes of her activities.

After this, Kaleb and I went to his class. We had a great time moving, jumping and swinging on the bars and rings. They are both little monkies.

McKaleb had a stomach virus earlier in the week, and unfortunately he gave it to me. I left work early on Wednesday and was out all day Thursday because of it. It was horrible. Hopefully none of you will get it.

I was able to tag 95% my Duck Duck Goose Items so that I will be ready for drop off next week. It was either do it yesterday while I was home sick or do it this weekend! I am planning on dropping stuff off on Friday! I can't wait to get the stuff out of the house!

It is supposed to be a semi-nice weekend. I hope you have a fun one!

Finally on the Road to Recovery!

On February 23rd, I updated you on the health of the little ones. Little did I know that things were about to get worse for McKenzie. The sinus infection was not sounding any better after 5 days on the antibiotics. I called the nurse at her drs office and Ms. Sarah recommended that Kenzie come in that afternoon.

So Granny takes her to the office and they run some tests and she had walking pneumonia. She got to stay home from school the next day. The dr seemed to think that the worst was over and that she should be better soon. He prescribed her a nasty antibiotic that McKenzie says is worse than the Augmenten that she hates. She cried and fought with me everytime she had to take it. Thankfully she made it through the entire round and is much better.

Kaleb didn't get the pneumonia - for which I am very thankful. I am not sure that his little lungs could have taken it as well as she did since he has had all those problems from RSV.

For those of you who aren't familiar with RSV, it is a respiratory virus. It manifests as a cold in adults, however for babies it can be very frightening. RSV is passed just like a cold, so most likely you will not know who gave your child the virus. It is very contagious. It can kill babies. It tends to be like other colds and presents in the winter. Please keep your small babies away from crowded areas where germs are spread during the winter months.

When I had McKenzie in December, the doctor recommended that we keep her away from crowds until cold and flu season was over. We didn't take her out much and definately didn't let just anyone hold her. ( I definately didn't let the woman that I didn't know at Toys R Us hold her. She had the nerve to ask!) We also kept her out of the nursery at church so that she didn't pick up anything there. Once cold and flu season was over, we let her stay in the nursery and go out in public more. She has been a healthy child overall and we didn't have any RSV scares with her.

So happy week! The kids are feeling better. I will try to take some pictures of our adventures and post them soon!

No Not Me Monday!

Today I would usually post a Not Me Monday! However I am not feeling like it today. The kids are sick and I didn't get much sleep last night. I could be diligent and create the post the night before to post at a later time, but dial-up is not conducive to doing anything quickly.

McKenzie went to the dr. on Friday for a sinus infection - again. Dr. Ruth has recommended that she see an allergist. There's a surprise. My daughter needing to see an allergist. Fortunately we have a great allergist and Kenzie is familiar with the office since she will be going where I get my shots.

When Luke brought the kids home from his weekend with the kids, Kaleb was running a fever. He ran one all night with a slightly runny nose and a cough. He went to the dr. today. He has the flu. Cancel all plans for this week. No gymnastics etc. He will be contagious until 24 hours after the fever breaks. We didn't get flu shots, so I expect Kenz and I will get it too. Yipee!!!! Ms. Becky will definately be glad that I didn't go to keep nursery last night and infect the entire church!!!

Anyway, I know we could use all the prayers we can get as this week will be especially trying with everyone (but me, so far) being sick.

Have a great day!!!
