Last night I took my little McKs to the grocery store. Kenzie needed broccoli for her St. Patrick's Day Party. So after dinner we go to the store. Since we had eaten, I figured that we would spend less on groceries - wrong. But I digress, back to the beginning.
I made the mistake of giving in and letting the kids get the car buggy. For those of you who haven't experienced this, it could be a wonderful way to entertain your child while you are in the store. The car has 2 seats and 2 steering wheels with horns for the kids to pretend to drive. The McKs got into the car section and proceeded to play. By the time we were at the end of the first aisle (the fresh fruit and veggies section) they were over it. Kenzie got out because Kaleb was hitting her because she was taking up too much room in the car for his liking. After she got out, he began to climb out the side "windows" and sit on them ala Dukes of Hazzard style. Ok. Not too bad. That lasted about 1/2 an aisle.
He then got this bright idea to sit on the roof of the car. Stop the cart and have a conversation with him about the warning labels and why he can't ride on the roof. Meanwhile sis is hopping up and down the aisle doing some dance she made up. Kaleb gets back into the car and rides on the windows again.
All the while, I have to keep telling the kids to stay on their side of the aisle and quit blocking other people. They haven't mastered staying on one side of the aisle so that others can get through. And I am still pushing the stupid car buggy. Fortunately it drives well, but it is still awkward.
About halfway through our trip, Kenzie decides to hang on to the top of the car where the winshield would meet the roof and drape her body across the hood. Ok. When she is done with that, little man had to have his turn. I let this continue for a couple of feet and then stopped the cart and pulled him off. The manager of the dairy section was looking at us funny. By this time I was very cranky with them. I hate the grocery store, and their antics were getting on my nerves and making a dreaded trip longer.
We finally made it to the front of the store without killing each other and get checked out. I have promised the kids that I will never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever get a cart that had the car on it again. Do not ask. It will not happen unless I have been hit over the head and have forgotten this day.
We did manage to get out of the store with everything on the list (which I left in the car).
On a brighter note, Kenzie got her report card last night. She had all "S's" and was checked off on all of the skills that she was supposed to have learned thus far. The teacher had written a sweet note. She said that McKenzie has learned a lot and has shown great progress this year and that McKenzie should be very proud of herself.
Thankfully, she is proud of herself. If you ask her, she is the smartest kid in the class.
Well, it is good to be confident in your skills.
This morning on the way to school, we were going to pray as usual, but she had some questions. She told me that she wanted to be baptized. I explained that you can't be baptized just because, but you are baptized to show that you have accepted Jesus as your Savior. I went through ABC's of becoming a Christian. I only had a few minutes, so I did the best that I could to explain it to her. I am excited that she is interested. It is so simple to be saved! I was so excited, that I may have given her more information than she needed. This isn't the first time we have talked about it, so I know she is absorbing what she is learning in Sparks. Please pray that she will feel God calling her to Him and that she will hear and begin a relationship with Him soon!
Have a great day!
