Finally on the Road to Recovery!

On February 23rd, I updated you on the health of the little ones. Little did I know that things were about to get worse for McKenzie. The sinus infection was not sounding any better after 5 days on the antibiotics. I called the nurse at her drs office and Ms. Sarah recommended that Kenzie come in that afternoon.

So Granny takes her to the office and they run some tests and she had walking pneumonia. She got to stay home from school the next day. The dr seemed to think that the worst was over and that she should be better soon. He prescribed her a nasty antibiotic that McKenzie says is worse than the Augmenten that she hates. She cried and fought with me everytime she had to take it. Thankfully she made it through the entire round and is much better.

Kaleb didn't get the pneumonia - for which I am very thankful. I am not sure that his little lungs could have taken it as well as she did since he has had all those problems from RSV.

For those of you who aren't familiar with RSV, it is a respiratory virus. It manifests as a cold in adults, however for babies it can be very frightening. RSV is passed just like a cold, so most likely you will not know who gave your child the virus. It is very contagious. It can kill babies. It tends to be like other colds and presents in the winter. Please keep your small babies away from crowded areas where germs are spread during the winter months.

When I had McKenzie in December, the doctor recommended that we keep her away from crowds until cold and flu season was over. We didn't take her out much and definately didn't let just anyone hold her. ( I definately didn't let the woman that I didn't know at Toys R Us hold her. She had the nerve to ask!) We also kept her out of the nursery at church so that she didn't pick up anything there. Once cold and flu season was over, we let her stay in the nursery and go out in public more. She has been a healthy child overall and we didn't have any RSV scares with her.

So happy week! The kids are feeling better. I will try to take some pictures of our adventures and post them soon!

No Not Me Monday!

Today I would usually post a Not Me Monday! However I am not feeling like it today. The kids are sick and I didn't get much sleep last night. I could be diligent and create the post the night before to post at a later time, but dial-up is not conducive to doing anything quickly.

McKenzie went to the dr. on Friday for a sinus infection - again. Dr. Ruth has recommended that she see an allergist. There's a surprise. My daughter needing to see an allergist. Fortunately we have a great allergist and Kenzie is familiar with the office since she will be going where I get my shots.

When Luke brought the kids home from his weekend with the kids, Kaleb was running a fever. He ran one all night with a slightly runny nose and a cough. He went to the dr. today. He has the flu. Cancel all plans for this week. No gymnastics etc. He will be contagious until 24 hours after the fever breaks. We didn't get flu shots, so I expect Kenz and I will get it too. Yipee!!!! Ms. Becky will definately be glad that I didn't go to keep nursery last night and infect the entire church!!!

Anyway, I know we could use all the prayers we can get as this week will be especially trying with everyone (but me, so far) being sick.

Have a great day!!!

*Urgent* regarding Bring a Friend to Gymnastics

Bring a Friend to Gymnastics Week is Feb 23-27th at Premier. Please see previous post to get full details.

Someone has called Premier about joining McKenzie in her class. Unfortunately, they did not leave their name and number with the receptionist at the gym. If you called the gym to go to class with McKenzie, please email or call me. The gym called me with some information for you.

Please check out their site for class schedules. They have lots of classes for all ages. It is a great way for your child to learn about their body and how to control it. They learn about balance and how to fall without injuring themselves.

I hope you have a great day!!!

Bring a Friend to Gymnastics Week at Premier!

My two monkeys are taking gymnastics at Premier on Tuesday nights. It is a great opportunity for them to learn more skills, make new friends and just try some fun things. It is also a great way for them to burn energy.

McKaleb's original teachers have both moved on to other classes/jobs because of school obligations. He loved Ms. Lacey and Ms. Madison. They finally got the new teachers for the parent/tot class. One of the teachers is Ms. Nicole. She was a sub for a couple of weeks. Kaleb likes her so far. The other teacher just started last night. I thought she looked familiar, but I could not place where and if I new her. Until.....I heard her name. His teacher is Ms. Dorcas from CHBC. She is one of the leaders of TNT and her daugher is one of McKenzie's friends. How nice to have someone you know working with you and your kid!!!

Anywho, McKaleb has been a little wild the past couple of days because he has had to take steriods for his bronchitis. He was all over the place last night. Running, jumping, swinging. One of his favorite apparatus to use is the balance beam. Those of you who know me from childhood know that this was my least favorite. Something about falling while doing a split leap...... But I digress.

The reason for my post is to let you know that Feb 23 to Feb 27 is bring a friend to gymnastics week. McKaleb's class is for 18 month to 2 year olds and their parents. It is lots of fun! Especially if your child is into climbing on everything in sight. Kaleb's class is at 5:45 on Tuesdays. It lasts for 45 minutes. Since space is limited, you need to call Premier at 588-2605. We would love to have you come join us.

Not Me Monday!

Welcome to the blog event known as Not Me Monday. Where we celebrate the things we didn't do last week. You can check out the rules at http://www.mycharmingkids.net/.

  • I do not record NCIS religiously and watch it when the kids are not at home.

  • I do not get so engrossed in the recorded episode, that I forget that I recorded it and actually watch the commercials.

  • I did not take my daughter and our cousins Kelly and Sarah to the re-grand opening of The Groovy Pad. They did not have a great time dressing up, having their hair, make-up and nails done, and singing HSM songs.

  • I did not allow the kids to watch "Enchanted" four times in the last week. I did not allow them to start watching it close to their bed time, so that they would fall asleep watching it. I did not fall asleep before they did.

  • I do not love House. I do not watch it so often that my kids know all the characters and are able to identify their favorite episodes.

  • I do not watch so many shows with medical terminology that when a character on a non medical show didn't know what petechial hemorrhaging was or what could caused it, I did not shouted out the answer at the TV. If you don't know that that is, do not ask me!

  • I am not starting a draft of this blog on Wednesday while watching said NCIS recording.

  • While writing this draft, I did not forget that it was recorded and still watch the commercials.

  • I did not forget to post my Not Me Monday on Monday, even though I started it last Wednesday.

  • I do not have my own private stash of chocolate at home. I love the DeMets Turtles. I do not hide them from the kids so that I do not have to share with them.

  • I did not eat half of one of the Turtles and put the other half down, for 2 seconds mind you, to help McKenzie address her valentines, only to turn to find the other half devoured by my chocoholic son.

  • He was not grinning madly and laughing while I was trying to find the piece of chocolate.

  • He was not having a hard time keeping it in his mouth.

  • He did not then proclaim that he wanted more brownies. I did not contradict him and tell him that what he had eaten was not a brownie but a Turtle.

  • I did not make brownies so that I could avoid sharing my private stash with the kids or alert them to where I have hidden it.

McKaleb is still recovering from bronchitis. Please pray that he gets over it soon. I am concerned because he is on steriods almost everytime he has a breathing issues (residual effects of having RSV in 2007). He is still occasionally wheezing and needing breathing treatments to help with that.

Hope you have a great week. We are off to gymnastics tonight!

The Groovy Pad Grand Re-Opening

Last weekend I had the wonderful opportunity to take McKenzie and our cousins, Kelly and Sarah, to the Groovy Pad's Grand Re-Opening. It is a wonderful place to take your kids to play and act out that fantasy that is in their minds.

The Groovy Pad offers 3 rooms to dress up and play in. They also have added a new Hollywood room that allows the kids to get their hair, make-up, nails, and/or fake tattoo's applied. Below are some pictures of the afternoon that we spent there.
The first room is the Princess Room. You are treated to a Castle that has all the necessities required of a fairy tale. From princess costumes for girls to dragon, knight, and pirate costumes for the boys. Complete with jewels, tiaras and poisoned apples.
Selecting the perfect dress and shoes......

Posing on the throne under the arbor.......

The table is set for your tea party......

A pop princess even comes to your tea.....

After your hair, make-up and nails are done......

Singing like a pop princess that you are......

A view of the Retro-Disco Room

Sarah is chillin' listening to the singers.....

And lest you think that it is only for girls, they have the camp out room for the boys. Complete with camp fire and .......

fishing pond!
This is an awesome place. McKenzie is begging to go back. I am going to be purchasing a pass for sure. McKaleb will love it too. He will be all over dressing up as a monster or something else. The fishing pond, well that is all boy. Way to go Ms. Julie!!! Even having girls, your boy room rocks.
